Good time to join Snap Inc (Snapchat) as PM?
Hi I am seeing quite some PM positions open in Snap Inc with interesting job description. I am currently a product manager in Amazon (2.75 yrs in Amazon) but not too happy here (stocks are the only motivation). Internal switches have become almost impossible with the hiring freeze in Amazon, so joining another team is out of option. Should I be bothered with the layoffs and the bad reputation Snap got? Do you think the company will get into more pathetic state going ahead? I don’t want to escape one hell hole to land into another and fear firing at all times but don’t want to miss a good opportunity either. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Maybe I’m just too old and not the target market but I don’t get the hype around Snapchat. I’ve used it sparingly and the constant UI/UX changes annoy the fuck outta me. Let alone ads and stuff from sponsored partners or whatever. If I’m gonna send a pic to someone I’ll just text it.
I think the new generation wants to send pics to people they don't know

I wouldn’t recommend joining.. there are so many other options out there. Unless you are passionate about the product to be willing to bear some pain, I would look elsewhere.
I believe in Snap in the long term. There are problems, but the media can be pretty sensationalist. Products are actually cool. You have nothing to lose if you apply. Get a better sense of what it’s like to work here from the team.

I recently joined Snap from Amazon. I also think they have a good long term strategy. I do think Amazon is much less risky. If you do decide to come, make sure you negotiate a good sign in bonus, because they have no criteria for promoting or firing people The good thing is, this is still kind of a startup, so plenty of opportunities to shine
Very happy at Snap. There's lots of opportunities to own big chunks of the product or process because it's still pretty startup-ish. There's a real effort to turn the culture and performance feedback process around. It was listed as the number 1 goal for leadership this year. The long term strategy makes sense to me, the short term is a bit scarier though
Lies This dude is probably one of Evans(or worse imran who’s the joker running ads) flunkies in design with 20m in stock desperate to not let it drop below 10% of its initial value. Erh... Nope. Fairly new. Not sure what misleading gains me. Nothing posted here will raise the stock so I'm actually gaining nothing
Sorry for being off topic but what hiring freeze? I just applied for a dev position in Amazon, is that why I haven't heard back? Google and others were interested so I assumed Amazon would be as well.
It’s just the number of people Amazon is hiring has reduced. If the position is listed then they will interview too.
