Google --> Wall Street?

Anybody have first hand knowledge of comp at HFT/hedge fund places like 2Sigma et al? Big jump from L4/5 comp at Google?

Should I sell my soul?

    Never. When you're at a hedge fund, you'll no longer be doing a front office job.. And you don't want to be working a job where you're not front office. You'll be treated differently, paid less and you'll be less happy IMO. I'm curious what the numbers are, but even than you'll be working more hours and might get fired anytime. Your salary at first might be high, but 10 years from now those that are in tech companies in front office roles will be getting paid higher.

      Two Sigma is a tech firm that trades and invests. The quants and engineers run the firm. And yes, comp is amazing. Good friend from college has been there for 10 years. Don't know how much he has made, but he lives in a $15k/month apartment next to Central Park, wears a $50k watch, is a member of NetJets, and leases a summer home in the Hamptons. So yeah, he's done well for himself, better than pretty much any Amazon employee except S-team and the handful of VPs who have been at Amazon for like 15+ years.

    If you want a pay jump from Google you don't need to go to 2sig. ;)

      Still depends, there are a bunch of immensely talented former Amazon people, many of whom are in the Seattle office.

      Yeah Seattle is a great office. I have had nothing but terrible experiences with Amazonians in Venice. Toxic folks.

      Real difference I think is performance bonuses that can multi-fold your base... Don't compare just base + annual bonus. Which tech company multiply 2x,3x base as performance bonus?

      I had offers 6 years ago from 2Sigma and a few other; silicon valley SWE was more competitive ... although what is interesting with these funds is they pay 1/2 your bonus (20%) into the fund, so u get a nice return

    Comp at 2S / AQR / others is roughly the same as google/fb/unicorns. In particular google can be higher if you factor in the refreshers / possibility of bonus not being as high as initial year guarantee.

    Example comp at hedge fund for an L5: 400k TC including sign on. Compare this to google you might get 370k TC including sign on but you’ll have refreshers which can effectively push TC to well over 400k

    People saying you will make 2x have never worked there or gotten offers. Source: have gotten offers from all companies in this comment in the past

      Scratch AQR from your list. Their pay is meh for SWE. i think not more than 130k TC for new grads and raises are 20k per year. If you’re a quant it’s about 30-40k more, which is still less than G/FB.

      Get started with Tradestation's automated strategies and EasyLanguage. Its a good place to start and develop your skills and understanding before moving to Python & Zipline

      You get paid though. Two of my friends are entry level analysts out of college at bridgewater and make base+commission=$300k+. Management will make into 7figures with 75%+ coming from commission.

      They only want ENTJs and ENTPs so unless you are one of those, forget about it. Also they test you on the principles during the interview and your score DOES matter.
