G recruiter reached out to me, what is this role? is it a GCP support role? I looked at requirements stating CS degree, and Glassdoor interview all state whiteboard coding interviews consisting of data structures, algorithms, big O etc etc. Is this role/interview process for Technical Solutions Engineer code heavy? Why would someone with a CS degree do this role compared to SWE or SRE at least? TC 190k
Yes, the interview is actually much easier for TSE as compared to SWE. If you are a dev and are not passionate about support role, don’t waste your time pursuing it.
Support role
Snob answers here are appalling. It's post sales engineering for large cloud customers. Coding interview is level minus one like a TPM. Need to have strong communication skills. It's for people who like working with other people and winning deals. You don't get judged on how many lines of code you write. No on call like SRE. I'm not a TSE but the guys in my office seem happy
What’s the barrier to entry? Seems like you need to know a lot
What’s the usual TC for technical solutions engineer?
It's support for gcp. Huhf13 Answer is very good. I'd just say as a CS person you may have stints where you do solve CS problems. The expectation is to narrow problems to the code level if possible and hand that off to the swe team.
Is leetcode easy sufficient for this role?
?
This is a shitty support role! Don’t take it. I’m a SE at Meta and curse myself each day for taking up this role. Only waiting for hirings to begin!
@Meta why is it shitty? Can you please elaborate cuz I am seriously considering it and I am a SWE just fed up with low level coding.
Why not to consider man?? @samkrfhvd
Is this the same as solutions engineer at TikTok ?
Yup support role
