I’m starting as a SWE at Google after graduation this year. I really enjoy software engineering, but the more I look into product management, the more I realize that my skills are more suited towards a PM career in the long term. I definitely want to get a few years of development under my belt before I decide to make the switch, but I’m incredibly curious-has anyone at Google been successful in internally transferring to the APM program? I’m sure this happens for the traditional PM role quite a bit, but the APM program is incredibly selective and geared towards candidates with minimal experience.
I literally completed a pm rotation at YouTube and still couldn’t get past the phone screen. Had 30 mock interviews (10 with google PMs), read three pm books cover to cover, and had dozens of artifacts to show that I’d be a good hire and none of that mattered. It’s brutal
very very very rare. just switch to l4 pm after 2 years
And this is doable?
yes I've seen a few people do it
