I’m team matching with some engineering productivity teams at google. When the recruiter pitched Eng Prod, it sounded like building tooling and infra, which I don’t mind, but blind makes it seem like the role might be very heavy on just building test frameworks. 1. Is this true or does the role build a wider range of tooling and infra? 2. How hard is transitioning from EngProd to product engineering after 1 year at L4? TC: 210k YOE: 5
Following. Recruiter introduced me engprod teams as well.

My coworkers seem to transition no problem although I haven't personally looked into it.
Minimum 1 year into role with possibly good rating?
90% of people get CME(can meet expectations) the first year. Unless you want to join one of the super selective teams like the core algo for search I wouldn't worry about it. Most teams will be happy to get someone who already knows Google's internal processes. That said you will likely reset your promo timelines by switching teams, which is another reason not to try super hard on your first team.
Shouldn’t be too bad especially if you have previous non-engprod experience. I would ask about potential projects and what the work is like in that team though, some teams will literally just have you write tests. Also don’t underestimate how draining it can be to join a team if you don’t like it with the intention of transferring after a year.
Overall if you like the work though it can be a good place, teams can be pretty chill

What do you think is wrong with a kid who got rejected by 9 colleges?
What does the JD/offer letter say about your position. Is it Software Engineer? Or something else.
No offer letter yet, but it would be a SWE role on a EngProd team. Same pay/position as Product teams, but blind seems to think there is some informal stigma to EngProd teams because of lack of direct impact on the product.
