What kind of questions are expected for engineering managers at Google? Are they expected to be solving puzzles/algorithm/write code? Are there any evaluation on people management or leadership? How does the onsite interviews work? Weightage for each category? How do we crack the interview? Any tips? Thanks in advance.
Yes, all. Clean efficient core is imp, if u can optimize its a bonus. It’s hard core technical and strong leadership traits to lead despite challenges. Scaling, design depth, how you influence patterns, how you react to crisis is the key. Be genuine :) best of luck. Google is a great place to work
Thanks. Is it same for director and above interviews as well?
I am guessing at that point it is more about leadership. Any Googlers here who have more knowledge of the process for Director and senior roles?
Director+ is a different beast. I tried for a L8 role but did not get through. It’s more about our of box thinking, solving unsurmountable challenges, vision over years, how would you evolve products people process tech business. I felt out of league honestly and not ready for L8 yet.
Are you a director at msft? I assume L8 is a director at goog? Based on what you said L8 seems better than the technical+leadership questions for the level below.
What level were you at M when you applied for L8 at G?
If level 66 is a director then level 67 senior director equivalent?
Don’t leave us
Yes kind of
Anyone who has gone through the engineering manager interview at Google any new experiences? Thanks
All, one or two coding, I had a hard core networking round instead of a system design ( could be role based ), googlyness , covered most of the managerial questions. Some ( if not all ) of the above interviews covered some part of system design if not on depth.
Were the coding rounds as difficult as they would be for an IC?
Yes LC xtra hard
Congrats! Can I DM you please?
You didn’t have a coding round??
