I have just been through my fourth interview for a Director role at Google in finance and I am wondering if you have an idea of what I should push for if they come back with an offer? At the moment my TCO is $550k with a $250k base, 40% bonus and circa $200k RSU’s vesting each year. Any suggestions on what I should expect? Current YOE is >20 #corpfinance #finance #google
Can you share your career path? Interested in knowing more as I’m also in the finance field. Admire someone who can get in Google at that level from the outside
Pretty broad across multiple verticals from FMCG through to Automotive with a ton of global experience. Honestly I don’t think I would have had a chance in hell of even getting an interview if I hadn’t leveraged a bunch of relationships until I got hold of a hiring manager in Google who was willing to meet me and referred me to TA personally.
Glassdoor shows roughly $321k base depending on location. I would push towards breaking the $300k base. Best of luck! On a side note, if you are looking to add on to your finance team I’m available to chat! Hah
Me too lol
What’s your background at WMT? Willingness to relocate to Austin or Chicago? (If you’re in Arkansas that is)
Really admire your openness here at that level.. rare to come across!
Honestly there is absolutely no reason people shouldn’t be transparent about their career paths and salaries etc… it benefits everyone at the end of the day
Dang glad to see someone at this level on blind, especially in finance. Always thought blind was full of young kids
And engineers!
Good to see someone posting in Finance at this level. Appreciate your openness in discussing the career path and TC. Best of luck!
Just chiming in to say what others have said, I’ve been in finance for 14 years now and it’s really reassuring to see this.
Can you give some insight into the interview process? I've been looking at some positions at Google but most things are about the tech interviews
So far it seems a bit atypical to the normal Google interview process you read about online. Started with the recruiter, then the hiring manager, then two of the hiring managers peers. The hardest part is getting that first interview with the recruiter… I think the chances of getting that initial interview are 99% reliant upon a personal recommendation otherwise you never get through the sheer noise of resumes they receive.
^ recruiter screen, hiring manager screen or interview, and then panel. Panel is typically recruiting manager plus 2 to 3 others.
As someone who is actually in the role, not hitting 800 for that level
OP thinks he / she is SWE L8.
SWE and business directors have equal comp. Skillset needed and impact to business is very similar, ultimately just comes down to business acumen + leadership OR technical competence * leadership. Market values them both pretty equally at that level
I feel we have a lot of seasoned finance professionals on this post. I am relatively new to the fpa role and I am wondering. What happened to the people through out your finance career who didn’t get promoted to senior manager or directors ? I don’t really see any senior financial analyst in their 50s in my company. Where do they all go? If people don’t get promoted to managements in before their 40s, are they doomed? Are there jobs out there for older individual contributors?
Director level at G probably can clear >1M
Similar to an L8? Not sure if that lines up with E8’s or not
That >$1M is for tech (Eng, PM). Not sure about non-tech, which is typically lower in terms of TC relative to Eng across levels.
