I just got rejected by the Google HC for software engineering role. Can I know which one of my referrals gave a bad feedback? I feel like someone backstabbed me. The recruiter said my feedback from the coding interviews is super strong and asked me for referrals from people currently working at Google. I talked to a few people I knew and they all agreed to give me strong referral. But someone fucked me over. The recruiter said that the referral packet wasn't strong enough.
Of course not.
What level did you apply for?
L3/l4
I had no internal referral and passed. Not sure that one really had strong impact on the result 🤔
No referral is better than a negative referral.
Recruiter here. None of your referrals screwed you over. Your feedback simply wasn’t strong enough. When I’m asking you for referrals at the end of the process, it’s because I’m trying desperately to build a compelling case of why we should hire you. So maybe all of your referrals provided positive comments. If it wasn’t enough to convince debrief/hiring committee, it’s because your performance wasn’t strong enough, not because someone “screwed you over”. Take this on the chin and do it again in a year.
Not a recruiter, but I agreed with what she said. Majority people have much better things to do than to spend time to write negative feedback, it's possible not super good one, like "you're one of kind" good. :) And most likely you'll not be able to find out why.
If my performance was poor why would the recruiter even bother sending a packet? And telling me that the performance was strong?
You should've just told the recruiter that you don't know anyone from Google.
I agree
Hiring committee here. I just checked your packet and it was Steve's fault - sorry about that.
Really? This is a classic case of blaming your failure on others. With this attitude, no one would want you in their team. Move on and prepare harder next time.
Internal referrals are virtually never asked. Even if they were asked, and feedback was bad/mediocre, the recruiter of course would never tell you that. C'mon, man. You're misunderstanding the process or words used. The recruiter likely said something along the lines of, "the interview PACKET wasn't strong enough" or the like (and the packet is the sum total of your effort to apply for the job - job description, job application, phone screen results, onsite interview results) and the result of this sum total is you did not meet the hiring bar. No, Google won't tell you the specifics and your post is the exact reason why they can't take the chance.
Agreed! Just imagine being an interviewer who interviewed this asshole and have your name revealed because you gave leaning no hire. They’ll probably stalk the hell out of you.
Meh, I've been pretty pissed too when an interview doesn't go my way, and had plenty of choice words I could have said. Probably just blowing off steam.
Ohh thats sad, you should know whom to trust man! Also, i dont think anyone at blind can and would check the internal feedback. Only your recruiter can help.
Is the recruiter allowed to tell me who it was?
No! They cannot disclose that. And it might be possible that it was not due to a backstabbing. We dont know. So when can you apply again? Next time do not put any referrals.
