Hi Googlers, I’m interviewing for L7 leadership roles @ G and am being asked for product areas of interest. I took a look at your current product suite (https://about.google/intl/en_us/products/?tip=autofill#all-products) and there’s a lot going on! I’m a bit of a Swiss Army knife so usually look for two main things: 1) high growth product areas with 2) abundant headcount where I can scale things up and not deal with massive budget or headcount resistance. If there’s a product or technical visionary leading the team, that’s even better. Are any Googlers here aware of product teams that with a lot of growth/momentum? Due to my work in RL, VR teams would be great but I’d love to know about other high growth teams I should target. Thanks for helping me narrow my target teams! TC: $320
YouTube and Cloud (GCP is crazy but Workspace is also seeing incredible growth)! Reach out to your recruiter and see what you can find, I know at least for YT there's hiring everywhere. We just had a new L7 come in for our team, although they've been around since forever.
Thanks for your input! GCP does seem to be an “avoid at all costs” situation. Is YT fun? Bc fun would be good. :)
Super biased but I think we have the most fun. Probably because we're the least "Google" PA but there's a lot more relaxed atmospheres here; part of it has to be the work we do is simply for a different audience than most of Google (we're an entertainment platform at heart). YouTube's reputation for being an excellent place to be is not unfounded. Look forward to seeing a Newtuber! 😃
(Given you are interviewing for L7 Why is your tc so low? What is your current level ?
6. I was intentionally under leveled in my current role but was given the chance to stand up a new team and vertical. No way was I going to walk away from that, and I don’t regret doing it. It’s been amazing but I need more headcount and faster growth.
Yeah, that’s E4 pay and the guy is looking for easy mode- no org challenges, high vis, vision defined for him, just rest and vest.
L6 product @ Meta is only at $320k?
Are you in the TPM ladder?
Technical PM / Product TPM. Kind of a hybrid. Company is moving to technical PM model which I think is the right move.
How did you get Google to consider you for L7 when you are currently L6 at Meta?
Because I was leveled as a 6 by G in my last offer, I did a bunch of shit in the meantime, and have been a Director elsewhere. Please, folks. I’m hoping for input from Googlers.
I’m new to the company so take it with a grain of salt. The large product areas that are growing fast are the ones already posted here (GCP/Workplace and YT. Those are large orgs. Finding one with vision/headcount will be team specific and you’ll have an opportunity to dig deeper once you team match.
Several HW friends recently joined either google or meta with fast track interview process and some level of guarantee for fast track promotions, making me think the real high growth areas are probably something not typical for these companies…

Why are you leaving meta
Don’t really want to. Freaking love what I do and the team I’ve built. Based on my past interview performance and current work, G is offering a fast track to 8. Also an abbreviated loop, so no reason to turn down the opportunity.
