Recently went through the Google interview process in Mountain View. The loop was for L4/L5. The recruiter called a few days later saying the feedback was great (presumably for all of the on-site interviews). The next step is hiring committee. I have three internal Google references. My question is: If I did well in all of the on-site interviews as my recruiter said, is there anyway that the hiring committee would not be inclined to extend an offer (anyway I would get rejected at this point and the reasons why/why not)? Or is the hiring committee at this point just for leveling and compensation? Google employees, past/current hiring committee members and recruiters please chime in. 5 YOE L5 at Amazon TC: 160 k CAD (Toronto, Canada, don't take a dump on my TC bay area dudes, its decent in Canada)
Hiring committee is not a sure accept. In fact I've heard hc reject can be higher than 50%. It's out of your control now. No point speculating. Just wait for the results.
Also, even after you get accepted by HC, the next step is Team Matching! If you search on Blind with the phrase ‘google headcount’, you will realize that google has lost the headcount for L3/L4 right now. Candidates accepted by the HC have been queued up for the past 2-3 months and haven’t found anything. In fact, a lot of candidates, for whom google has been a dream company, had to move on to competing offers after waiting for 3+ months. You can google and find similar result. Also, in many cases, recruiters told the candidates (after passing the HC) that they can’t find any matches and they have to either wait indefinitely or close the application. And my friends working at Google also confirmed the same! P.S.- I had my on-site on Thursday. My recruiter messaged me 2 hours after the interview, that my feedback was trending positive so far and I should hang tight!
I've heard similar. Whats strange is if it were any other company, we would just have the offer now. Not sure why Google's process is so drawn out.
If you have three internal references and your packet is getting presented to HC, then your chances are very good!
Thanks, lets hope. I'm just wondering why people say they got rejected at hiring committee stage when they did well in their interviews? I always used to think the hiring committee rejection is only if candidates had mixed feedback, and were on the border of hire or no-hire...
Maybe they really didn’t do that well. Without seeing actual interview feedback, it is impossible to say for sure. Official Google policy is to keep the hiring bar high but there are dozens and dozens of HCs within the company. Some have poor pass rates, others are more lenient. There are other variables in play, too many to even think about. So the best thing you can do is stay positive. That means be assured that you did well and you have three internal references, which is more than what most candidates can say! 🙂
You will be approved for L4.
Thanks, although I don’t think L4 comp would be enough to get me to move cities.

Stay positive man, no reason to start examining worst case scenarios just yet. Just give your other onsites if you have them.
Thanks. Pretty positive with or without the job. I'm pretty happy in Toronto, despite the low total compensation compared to the US, its very good compensation for Toronto/Canada, and the city is amazing.
