Am I the only one, who thinks that Google Home is running circles around Alexa?
Being backed by the best search engine on the planet will do that. Alexa had the initial market share but that will only help for so long.
But I'm talking about just voice understanding. GH is much better. Why? Losing YouTube is a big deal though.
Are you mixing your devices? Alexa != FireTV
Sales figures don't seem to indicate that. I'm not asking sophisticated queries, just need something that understands me when I turn on my timer, TV and lights. I prefer to use my phone for complex things
Alexa is crushing Google Home in terms of market penetration. Not even close. It might be “better” for you, but the market is largely being “won” by Amazon. Next question is whether “winning” this market means big $$ beyond just selling some hardware?
What about Siri and that HomePod thing?
What about it?
I was a late adopter of Alexa. I feel like Amazon wasted time and money on it. It is so terrible. I kept telling myself... If Google did this, they'd have some great data to leverage in accomplishing tasks. It still has a long way to go but I don't see Alexa turning around. They just don't have the data.
Amazon knows the purchasing habits of the wealthiest 20% of the consumer market or something. I don’t think it’s right to say they “don’t have the data”. They have a massive head start in terms of the skills available. Alexa’s sole purpose is to explore frictionless commerce for Amazon. Google Assistant doesn’t quite connect so clearly to a profit motive, yet.
That's great and all but doesn't help me book flights or navigate me when all Alexa says is "sorry, I don't know how to do that." Purchasing habits don't mean squat there. So yes "they don't have the data."
Can you, say, book a flight end to end and pay for it on a Google home speaker? Don't say fo it on Android phone with Google assistant, that's different and is like comparing apples to oranges ...
I had bunch of Alexa's and recently bought Google home minis. Initially, I thought Google is way way better, it also provides better answer. Over time, I have realized that saying "ok" or "hey Google" is really really stupid. Additionally, Alexa seems to be better at understanding accents. I use these devices for controlling start home stuff, not for complex searches. I almost always prefer Alexa now and switch to Google only if Alexa acts dumb.
