My recruiter is asking for payslips. I've already given my Joining Letter which clearly states my TC and ESOPs. However they still want proof. It's difficult to get them since I work at a startup, and we don't have a system. So it's a bit of work for an already overworked accountant. Lucky that I didn't lie about my current TC, so I will be able to provide proof, whenever I get the slips myself. What's my best option here? Can I tell the recruiter that I'm not getting them, assume my TC is legit and make an offer, I'll prove this to you later in the future? TC: 27 Lakhs YOE: 3
It’s kinda disgusting how Google managed to adapt these disgusting practices that are common in Indian sweatshop companies.
This is some informal practice that some recruiters are running on their own inside Google. If these incident news of how they're bullying candidates reaches Google senior leadership, those recruiters would be fired.
Completely agree, not just Google or the FAANGs. Even 'cool' multinationals who have a laundry list of pro-employee benefits elsewhere descend to asking salary slips in India.
I don’t know about Indian business culture but this is beyond inappropriate in the US
Yup.. Unfortunately recs in India are still allowed to ask for current TC and pay slips. It basically boils down to the demand supply balance. India has too many Engineers fighting for few positions, so the Companies can command this crap.
Also probably illegal in most places around the world, and not just inappropriate.
Form 16, ITR filed, amount deposited as salary in bank account
Get other offers and tell google that’s what they have to beat, not payslips.
Thanks for this. A lot of people have recommended me to do this, but I just felt unloyal to do so. Next time.
Unloyal? It’s a business deal. I understand that India has its differences compared to the US, but you should read this, especially the beginning part: https://haseebq.com/my-ten-rules-for-negotiating-a-job-offer/
Is this to prove employment history?
I'm not sure. Could be.
You can black out or cover the pay, I had the same asked for me for a new job I just got. It’s just to prove you weren’t laid off or fired from your previous employer. They ask you to cover wages, or any numbers.
Share your last 2 Years tax return, that should have your total TC information.
Tell your accountant it’s for applying home loan and ask them to prepare soon. Explain the legit issue and share any Form-16 if you already have. Or share bank statements. It’ll show as “salary” I’m sure. Don’t take tension. You’ve already proved your talent and goog wants you so let them do the needful ;)
I could show my Bank Statements, but that'll show 'take-home salary' and not the enormous tax cuts and contribution to PF. Will that matter? I'm sure it can be reverse-calculated by their accountants and prove my TC, but I'm trying to take best steps here. Google is my dream, and I don't want to throw it away for little issues. Thanks for your comment "bull gates" lol. I want more people like you on Blind :)
This is the reason Google feels that they can low-ball and people will join . This asking salary slips is totally rubbish and needs to stop but people here in India don't realise their worth and think of companies as some God or something. These are just businesses and don't care about you . The earlier you learn the better it is .
