Got a semiconductor hardware offer from Google , horribly under- levelled but pretty good Total Comp for that level ( thanks to solid gsus) . Competing offer from a large semiconductor ( Think qualcomm, broadcom, nvidia, intel etc. ) company - higher total comp , joining bonus, very less shares - much higher designation. Google fanboy for a long time. Is working at google worth the "level" hit ? Which one do you think I should take ?
Google hardware is not great IMO. Relatively newer team, no big hits, mostly imitation products.
interesing perspective.. Are you talking specifically about semiconductors ??
Not about semiconductors, about Google hardware products in general such as Google clips, hub, etc
Google is not special anymore. It is just like another big company, say like Microsoft
yeah, but aren't these better than say Qualcomm or Intel ? Not just comp - opportunity, culture etc ?
What’s your YoE? If it’s under 10, then I recommend the large semiconductor company. You have the ability to move around and work on different parts of the product and different types of platforms. If you think you are a seasoned player looking for growth then Google. You will get opportunities to own stuff though I am skeptical abt the work at Google India which maybe not be the best.
10+ sadly... I was thinking the other way around - if i were younger , i would pick google - not much to lose...
We tend to think like that. Yes, you get to own more from the get go but the exposure from working on different things tends to help out once you move up the chain. Of course, we have to take the initiative to move around and take advantage of working in a big company - I have made it a point to never work on the same product line/type twice.. As a seasoned veteran, I think it’s the right time to take some risks to allow you break into some of the senior roles like PE, Director etc which won’t be easy to crack at the large semiconductor company.
What is your TC offered at Google and the other big Semi?
I think I know who you are..But don't worry, I've left the company.
I you really know me , I think I know you too 😀😀
If you so desperate about Google. Go and join. Why to counter argument as if like your CEO
Yes, it's as if Blind is not for asking these kind of questions at all. Take your holier than thou attitude elsewhere
He asked question already. But defending back like Google HR. Did you get my point?
Mind sharing your level (L4/L5) and compensation break up (Base+ RSU/year +Target bonus)
What's your offered TC at google and the semiconductor company ?
The solid RSUs dry up in 4 years and then you are left in lurch looking outside where they won’t be able to match your compensation because you are a really low level employee to demand that compensation.
Im hoping , ill get promoted by then .Im good for 4 years , even if they give minimum raises. Its a gamble i agree...
Been there done that. Refreshers at G suck. And if you have been given RSUs over and above your current level, your refreshers would be barely be 15-50% of your current grant. Which means your 5th year RSUs would be at best half of your first year RSU. This usually leads to a massive compensation drop in spite of 2 promotions in 4 years (which is achievable only if you are super good and your manager is super supportive).
