Recruiter gave feedback that the team was impressed with my skills, yet they will not be moving ahead with my candidacy. At this time, there were a few other candidates that more closely fit what the Hiring manager was looking for. Is this just a diplomatic way of saying I'm rejected? Is there a freeze period for Google before which I cannot attempt another interview?

But you can match with other teams, right ?
