What's the hiring bar for L3 SWE? Out of the 4 coding interviews and 1 Googlyness round, on an average, how many strong hire / lean hire is required from the interviewers to pass the HC? Lets say I'm getting 2 strong hire and 1 lean hire (from my gut feeling) while the fourth one can go either way, what are my chances? It's been a week since my onsite. Was this in mtv?
Yes, but does that matter
If those are 100% the scores you got then it's prob a pass, but it's unlikely to get 2 strong hires so I'd say leaning a pass overall but can go either way
Candidates often think they did well when in reality they’ve bombed it. Ex: you took 40 mins to solve a warmup question. I didn’t even ask you the next one. All you can do is have patience and wait.
Its not easy to get strong hire just saying. Coming up with solution is not enough it should be good testable code come upnwith corner cases and you have to use close to no hints for that and you have to wow the interviewer in some way., I got a strong hire in one round only because the interviewer even admitted out of 50+ times he asked the question he never saw someone solve the question as fast including coding it up. And I got hires in rest of the rounds even though I solved 2 questions. Again bar for hire is also pretty decent you should use very few hints and write perfect code come up with corner cases. Most people get lean hires from what I toalkd to my friends some get hire and its somewhat rare to get a strong hire.
Seriously what's the point of asking this question? Even you don't really for sure know how you did in the interview. We certainly dont. No one knows what interviewer felt like when working with you. How exactly do you think we can answer your question? This is essentially, your guess is as good as ours. I have seen people who thought they did poorly in the interview get an offer while many who thought they did extremely well got reject.
L3 for 4 yoe? Dang. Can you tell us about your preparation? How many questions had you prepared? And what all materials you used?
Strong Hire is very rare. Probably the top 10% of all candidates who have answered a certain question get it. Anyway, from my experience taking and giving interviews at Google I’ve realised the following - 1. You can never say for sure what your rating was. Sometimes the rounds that you thought you bombed would be your strongest scores, sometimes the ones you thought you killed could be the worst rounds. This is because interviewers look for signals and as someone giving the interviews, you don’t know what those exactly are. 2. Hiring committee doesn’t care about the hire/no hire scoring as much as they care about the extensive feedback interviewers write to justify that scoring. I’ve seen some of the best candidates I’ve ever interviewed get rejected at hiring committee stage whereas seemingly bad candidates could get through if they’d done other rounds exceedingly well. 3. Peaks > consistency One strong hire, one no hire, 3 leaning hires > 5 leaning hires All in all, it’s a waiting game at this point and if you walked off feeling good, that’s all that matters.
You're the best
This answer should be bookmarked in the entire blind regd google onsites The answer matches my intuition too. The only thing wanted to add is One strong hire, one no hire, 3 lean hire is better than 5 lean hire for sure but even then it probably is borderline, ideally you would like at least one more hire.
