Which one to take? Currently in Seattle area.
G > FB so G NYC > Bay so NYC So G NYC
5 > 4 and TC higher
Depend on if you have family or not, NYC is terrible for raising kids
Rich kids from NYC tend to get into good colleges
No it isn’t. I was raised in NYC and many friends of mine raise their kids in NYC as well.
New York /nj suburbs has by far much better schools compared to Bay on average
Uhh what? I can’t tell if you’re serious lol. Cupertino, monta vista, Gunn, mission, Saratoga, Palo Alto, etc. For STEM, Bay Area definitely wins. Just look at the rankings lmao.
I guess u haven’t visited Bay Area lol
G > FB SFBA and NYC is a toss up. But if you're a single male: NYC.
If you’re a single male, DEFINITELY NYC.
How is the tc ? Have you gotten google to match fb’s offer ?
Also consider that E5 refreshers will be way higher.
Just speaking from career standpoint (ignoring SF/NY which is a separate discussion): G L4 - If you want to be relaxed and work <= 45 hours / week but will not be challenged, tough to advance, maybe a bit less TC but more $/hour worked, probably boring but "coasting" is very possible F E5 - If you are good at handling high expectations / stress / pressure, and don't mind working 60 hours per week or more if you are on-call (this is mostly due to the once-per-quarter "stack ranking" peer review culture with a strictly enforced cap of 10-15% of your peers being rated "on the way out" every six months for only meeting "most" of their expectations) For SF/NY: SF - Monoculture, terrible if single male (6:4, even 7:3 ratio), great weather, a lot of inconspicuous consumption NY - More expensive than SF, many people from all kinds of backgrounds, shit weather, money is flaunted here and goes a long way I actually think that FB E5 level compensation would be what you would need to have a decent quality of life in NY.
I wouldn't recommend FB if you have a family either. The perks around time off etc all cut into your "impact" during performance reviews, and you'll be judged against 20 year olds who don't mind being glued in front of their screen until midnight submitting diffs. Most people at FB are either too young to have families or they are already in management.
Once you are in management , you are good in terms of not getting PIP’d ? Also , every 6 months or so , ~15% of Facebook is on their way out ?
