Hi Blind Expecting an L4 offer from google soon (@HCOL city). I know they tend to lowball. What can I do to negotiate up the offer to average TC band for L4 if I have no competing offer? Is this possible, or is higher band only possible with competing offers? tc 195k yoe 4.5 #google #swe #engineering #offer #negotiation
You can ask, recruiter will ask for competing offers, and then laugh when you say you have none and tell you to accept the lowball or kick rocks
Haha that would be unfortunate. I wonder if pretending to walk away unless 20k+ for example, would work on G recruiters
Even with competing offer there’s a chance that they don’t match. L4 is not that irreplaceable
Google takes a while maybe keep interviewing to get competing offers ?
Really tired of interviewing and want to finalize with G asap😅
Hang in there 30-40% of a raise is still worth it in my view. Just take a few days off and try it, yeah it sucks I understand.
You need a competing offer. I got L4 up to 377K a year for 4 years with a Meta E5 offer.
377k is top top band L4. Congrats
377k is out of band L4, mid L5
I know someone who got 320k just by negotiating, but obviously competing offer would help.
320k without competing offers is great
Yeap, the person tried pretty hard lol, wrote like 2 letters etc
I recently got an L4 offer (interviewed L5 and downleveled). 1st year comp 340+ excluding sign on. And I was able to negotiate up without competing offer.
Update: negotiation was possible without mentioning competing offers!
How much did you get?
Initial offer was around 300k first year, 260k avg. went up to 320k first year, 280k avg, roughly.
Median L4 SWE offer for Bay Area / NYC is 270k TC avg over 4 years for reference
Thanks! I hope initial offer is near median
