How do you qualify for a L4 interview? I’m starting at FB as a new grad in 6 months, but want to go to Google for WLB/easy job (after my signing bonus period is over) in a year so I can do part time school or start side businesses. Is it possible to get L4 with 1 YOE + 6 internships? If not, what’s the minimum YOE requirement? I’m pretty confident in my interview ability (Got G, Robinhood, Jane St, etc).
Yeah it’s possible Waterloo?
My friends from grad school with 2.5-3 yrs prior experience, got invited for onsite interviews directly (L4). A couple of them got in too. But below that experience it was pretty much for L3 roles. Also, OP what's your motivation for joining as L4? If it's high TC, then maybe level doesn't matter. A couple of friends who got in as L3 have higher TC than a couple of L4 ones largely due to competing offers and strong interview performances.
Joining as L4 would be nice, because I’d be E4 at FB. Top of band L4 is higher than L3, though
unlikely. you’d need real experience, not first year at FB (you won’t learn shite there)
Can you elaborate more. Why wouldn't a 1 year experience at F teach enough to make it for L4? Is the first year less rough? In what ways?
first year experience *anywhere* in a bigco is just a seat filler. they didn’t hire you for what you’ll do the first year, they hired you for your potential in years 4+. literally anyone could do the job of a first year hire. you do not pick your work, it is assigned, and it is low level low design low thought outsourceable work. you will spend fully 6 months learning the internal tooling, style guide, how to write code to make particular reviewers approve it (for maintainability and other reasons, not purely code quality) and how to navigate the unique internal politics. it will prepare you to take on actual work in year 2 at the same company. switching companies in such a short time, as a year 1 employee, you may as well have toured europe.
TC and split please? Like someone asked what is the sign on bonus?
Phd or ~4 yoe
Each level at G requires 1 yoe. So you can join at L4 in 4 years if you don’t burn out by then.
I think you are too young to wish for wlb and easy job
As little as 2 YoE from what I’ve seen on blind + irl
L4 is generally the 4/5 yoe range coming from outside.
What abt internal?
Internally I’ve seen people get there with fewer yoe.
