Currently at Twitter, as senior making around £220k. I have been lucky when I was starting the stock price was really low and had good refreshers over the years.
Recently got L4 offer from Google. Pays £160k. I can retry in 6 months and push for L5 but don’t have much energy and 6 months later is not going to be good time for me due to personal reasons.
At Twitter, the pay is good, manager is good but the eng quality is quite low in the team, tooling is really ancient and there is the new Elon thingy which seems to be causing ambiguity for the next 6 months. Also I think Parag is the wrong Ceo. Due to dissatisfaction in current role I continuously find myself checking new roles in Linkedin but many London startup roles pays waaay less then what G offered for L4. Also I think day by day I believe in so called mission of the company less.
At Google, hopefully tooling is much better than Twitter, can potentially work on something at bigger scale. Also grow up with great eng stories of Google, so kinda have respect to eng at Google. But this would be a step backwards in career. Also promos in Google might be hard.

Sure, the tech is good, and it’s in general comfortable, but do not expect you will do more interesting things here, and getting back to senior will likely take 3+ years (anything faster depends on the team, project and luck much more than you).
