I’m an ex FB E6 engineer currently working in a startup (posting from a friends account). I’ve tried interviewing for Google L6 and Uber 5B a couple of times, but always end up with L5 at Google and 5a at Uber. I usually prep really well for the interviews, but out of the 5-6 interviews one of them ends up average and as result I don’t make it. People who have successfully interviewed for these levels, could you share some advice/prep strategy?
Both companies tend to downlevel you a bit. Uber has better opportunities to quickly bounce back. I took 5a and making my way up.
Take the offer and work your way up to L6. Unless you are demonstrably above L6 bar you will be down-leveled.
Uber are so full of themselves. 5a compensation is way lower than other companies. I got a $300k offer from them recently, and no matter how many competing offers I give them, they wouldn’t budge (I brought 400k+ competing offers).
Maybe losing people but doing the right thing and that feels really good
Losing good people because you can’t pay them is not doing the right thing. Recruiters who manipulate and lie are what causes women to not negotiate. Women naturally trust easier than men. It’s not just a negotiation piece, when a recruiter lies and says “these are the best and final numbers” I think women believe that. If you want to make real change, gut your recruiters.
Agree with ILqb74 . People who join purely for money end up doing nothing. Uber is better of not having these folks. Silicon Valley folks are too entitled they need to get out of this mind set
can anyone shed more info the original ask from op? Or any tips from existing L6+ from google?
Surprised an L6 at FB isn't a 5b at Uber
Getting hired at L6 at Google is really tough... Don't be too rough on yourself.
Why not go back to facebook
