Google L6 salary decrease?

I've passed the hiring committee for a L6 engineering manager at Google and I am being asked for compensation expectations. My current comp is a little high for a L6: $320k base / $200k cash bonus / $130k rsu per year (4year vest). Total comp $650k I think my current level probably would be a L7 at Google, and my comp reflects that, but I'm OK to go down a level as I'm honestly bored in my current role and want a new challenge. 15 YoE The question is, what comp should I request? I am not based in California. Thanks for your help!

Your base is 320k? What do you do for work ? What title ? How many years of total experience?

Also what do you have for breakfast?

Paper money doesn't count I think...

Why would you want to take such a significant pay cut. Stay for money.

Google Gogle36 Oct 29, 2019

You will have a BIG salary cut, not sure why would you do that.

If the cut is too big I won't join but would be ok to take a reduction for more interesting work

I would be careful before doing this especially if you are relatively happy where you are. Sounds like you have significant scope at your current job. There is also a big difference between L6 and L7 at Google, depending on team. A lot of L7s are like directors in role, whereas L6 is more of a line manager. I guess it partly depends on what you want to do next too.

I think a lot of people are wondering how we can apply to your job

Google swinglyf Oct 29, 2019

FWIW, you probably won’t have to take a pay cut if you negotiate well. They can absolutely pay you 650k

Don t do it. It makes no sense

Google swinglyf Oct 29, 2019

Op already gave the reason it makes sense. They’re bored and want a change. Money/level isn’t the most important thing to a lot of people

$200k in TC is a lot to think about though. Moving from 650k to 550k is worth the jump for his reasons but $450k? That is where the dilemma is.

Google itzme Oct 29, 2019

650k is possible for L6.

As Internal promo or external hire? I’m post cliff and internally got it after a bit. Tc isn’t great though, it is annoying af as fb would pay way more Trying to figure out how to get it up without quitting because I really do love my team (and G in general)
