Google Offer Expectations/Negotiation

Dec 5, 2017 18 Comments

It looks like Google will be extending an offer to me soon for Mountain View. While I have yet to receive an offer, the recruiters are pushing hard for a ballpark number to work with. I have about 2 years of work experience and a B.S. in Computer Science.

If you have any tips or advice on what kind of salary I might expect or how far I might be able to push salary negotiations, I would be very grateful.

I am familiar with the massive hike on living expenses in the bay area and am hoping Google can make a competitive offer, all things considered.

  • You’re looking at L4, without competing offers something like:

130-135k base, 120-180k stock over 4 years, 15-25k sign on

With competing offers depending on which companies they’re from the range can go up to something like:

140k base, 220-300k stock over 4 years, 25k-50k sign on

Congratulations. Don’t focus on the massive hike in expenses. They will be offset by the gain especially in the long run, especially if you play your cards right and can negotiate with competing offers.

+1 Qualcomm isn't in the same pay league as Google so it won't do much for you. Also, long term Google comp grows rapidly in first few years (near doubling).

Just noticed you were from Qualcomm. Might want to ask about Google San Diego office. There aren't really many jobs there but the ones that are there are usually for ex Qualcomm people.
