Got an L3 Google offer with an MS and about 2.5 years experience. 125/160/30 I was pretty disappointed to be honest as I thought I’d get L4. I have no competing offers so I doubt I can negotiate much. Let’s say I work my ass off, how hard is it to get promoted to L4 in about a year? Any tips or things I should keep in mind?
Come to Oracle, my first year TC was 220K and with NO promote, my second year is 285K due to base increase and stock refresh. I’m getting promoted soon, expecting to see more increase and stock refresh. In google you never get such jump.
You can make L4 in a year or less. Just make the intention clear to your manager and execute.
low ball for sure. l3 3 years back used to get 250 stocks.
Congrats! When did you interview? I’m waiting too. The offer is a little bit low I think.
About a month ago. Good luck
Unrelated question for op - what happens to any leftover T days you have? Do you get paid out for them or do they just go away?
OP- did you accept the offer? Were you able to negotiate more? Pls reply
no worries it's all good... if u perform, you'll quickly get to 4... probably in a year or 1.5 years. in the long term this is no big deal. L4-5 is the bigger challenge by far... and, forget about L6 unless you have luck on your side.
Thanks. How much depends on my manager? Should I do a 20% on top of my work or just make sure I finish my work and ask for more ?
don't worry too much about the comp... it will go higher than you think as you get refreshers and do the megabackdoor roth, and other fringe benefits etc... also, google is a lifestyle company -- it doesnt matter if u get 200k or 300k, everyone lives the same life (same breakfast, same lunch, a few vacations, same parties). forget 20% work, no one likes those. take initiative and launch impactful projects. quickly finish your starter project and find your own thing to do, since the starter project is usually trash that no one else wanted to do.
