NOTE: poll allows a selection of multiple options. TL;DR 1. Follow your heart, and do not hesitate to make any move. Find anything exciting, otherwise, lack of motivation is killing life. 2. Yes, PIP is possible at Google, and I have verified it myself. It is still good to know there is PIP to create an efficient working environment. Reorg -> boring project -> discussed transfer with manager -> SEE, EE, CME -> interview -> accepted offer -> performing low for 1.5 months -> PIPed -> preparing hand-off documents What could be done better: - Switch team shortly after reorg if things do not go well. - Switch team soon after discussing it with manager - Resign early, shortly after signing new offer. - Perform normally after signing new offer if willing to stay for a while. - Collect personal files well before any further action. - Do not hesitate to make a move (team transfer, resign, etc) during COVID. - Be fully prepared for an immediate leave before looking up resignation information internally. What's next: - I will probably be marked non-regrettable anyway. So no big difference between, a). I resign now, b). leave after PIP (I have confidence I can walk out of PIP with no difficulties), and c). take separation package. #engineering #software #swe #pip
Is it Amazon or Google ?
What were your perf ratings?
before COVID, EE during COVID, CME
You got pip on CME? I don't know much about google but from blind it seems they tend to put people on pip only after a NI. Do you think talk abouts switching teams with your manager could have resulted in you getting a PIP?
Your writing is a bit chaotic. I don't understand what's your problem with getting severance. You should get the severance you will be marked as non-regrettable anyway.
Please don't spread misinformation. I doubt your manager is notified of any of your moma activity. Yes your page visits are logged, but nobody has access to it without lawyers/privacy signoff in exceptional cases. This would have been leaked many times and would be a huge scandal
+1
Did you explicitly ask for severance? Btw, you should use up all your vacation hours if allowed.
Hard to follow, you wanted to resign so you on purpose got piped? Why not look for another job while at Google instead?
โPerforming lowโ. I read people working 2 hours a day and being fine.
The people who work 2 hours a day are getting enough work done because they are good. If you're not good you could be working 8 hours a day and still not be doing enough work.
YOE at Google? You were pipped at new team within 2onths of joining the team?

Moral of the story: Always leave them wanting.
Exactly, that is what has been learned, in a semi-hard way, like now. If I do it again, I'll probably either perform normally, or quit earlier.
How do you leave them wanting? What a the strategy
