I have the first phone interview (the one with a PM, not a recruiter) with Google soon for a PM position. Most of the material I find online focuses on generic questions that don't really have anything to do with the candidates background. Should experienced hires expect different sorts of questions? I.e., can I expect to have more questions about projects I've worked on and fewer standard "design a new feature" sorts of exercises? Just trying to determine how much prep I should put into generic material vs. polishing my own anecdotes and examples. Fwiw I have around 5 years of exp as a pm, half of those as a co-founder
Unless you are interviewing for a Group PM or Director level role or for a PM role which requires specialized knowledge - you should expect to go through the standard interview process where they try to evaluate your product sense. So yes you can expect questions like favorite product or design a pen Once you go onsite then you will be asked more about your experience along with product design, system design etc.
had phone interview w gcs for pm role. Prepped on all material given by recruiter; design, estimation, go to Market strat. Interviewer asked me to name 6 enterprise tools and to tell them specific metrics the LT should care about for each and why.
Yes, focus on examples of your own achievements. Recruiter suggested preparing 3 examples for each type of question in case it gets asked by multiple people. I didn’t get past the phone round, the interviewer wanted a textbook answer for “define product development process”
