New grad wanting to compare job roles. I'm not sure what the career trajectory for Google SETI really is and how it's viewed by people outside in comparison to SWE roles. I don't want to be thought of as a QA person by recruiters down the line. Both are for Seattle. TC at MS > Google.
SWE anytime. Its harder to shift role than company.

Just pick SWE or you will regret it after 2 years.
Easy to transfer from SETI to SWE at Google
Lies. You have to reinterview or do the packet thing. Not easy. Don't fall for this bs OP!
The packet thing is not hard...
MS SWE is better. SETIs at Google are not the same as a SWE. You have to do a ladder transfer which isn't always easy.
Google SETI here. Vote for MS SWE.
Really? Is it hard to do a lateral transfer even at L5?
It's actually not that hard to transfer ladder, no interview required, only need to find a manager that wants you. A lot of ppl in my team have done that. If you like working on testing infrastructure stuff it's good for you, otherwise seems a waist of time to work as SETI than switch. Just take msft SWE than interview for Google SWE a year later if you really want it.
Transfer from SETI -> SWE is harder the higher the level at Google.

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
Make it a poll.
