Asked my recruiter what the range is for L4 at Google is, and he responds 168-190 TC, which doesn't really match what I'm seeing here or on levels.fyi. What's going on? I have a Amazon SDE1 offer (I got downleveled in the interview..) for 180 which I didn't think was going to be competitive, but I told him anyways, did I mess up there? 3.5 YOE
I believe data of levels.fyi mostly comes from HQ office. However, your offer is in low range of L4 even if it’s Seattle. You should ask for 10-20% more.
Even when I filter by location most data points in Seattle are all well above 200
Maybe the recruiter tried to play your mind. Like I said that he might want to offer you low end of the range.
What’s your yoe ?

Your messed up by letting them know a bad offer. It’s gonna be really hard to move the needle
Your only option is to get a good offer elsewhere and use that to bump your TC up. Don't take a lowball ffer unless you immediately need to switch, you'll regret it.
Someone told me his friend got a Google L4 offer with over 300k TC in Seattle. Don't know if it's true
Lie. Not possible in 2019. I don't know about the HC bar but the TC is dropping as confirmed by my friend in Google Fremont/ Seattle office who is an L5.
I got this a year ago, excluding $50k sign on. My stock grant was close to $500k
