Keep hearing this term pop up everywhere. Searched online and found that Google started the SRE thing and companies have followed. But only a few compnies seems to be doing it right. So I was wondering how is Google SWE-SRE? Is the position a good role for career growth?
L4 SWE-SRE here! Would love to answer any questions you have that might help you or others - it’s a fantastic role
Hey google! Looking to transition from a pure devops role, very strong in sysadmin and aws/cicd... 4 yeo, what do you recommend to focus on to moved to more sophisticated sre role at google?🙂
What projects do SRE usually do and what’s the project difference between SWE vs SRE? Coding percentage per day and daily life. Thank you!
SRE sounds like the real deal! I am SWE here, what are some downsides to SRE?
Some consider oncall to be a downside, but honestly it’s a nice pay bonus so I love it
Woul you be able to refer for sre in google ?
@Google where are you working from ?
How is the pay structure for SRE @Google(not sure what are the different levels)
Same as SWE.
Hi All, how do I best prepare for SW-SRE?
Did you get your answer? If so would you be kind enough to share?
Still in my first year at Google doing SRE and things have been great so far. There are really senior people I look up to in my team, pretty inspiring. You can growth in any role as long as you are good at it. What's your aspiration though? Keep being an IC? Manager? Tech lead?
How did you prepare for it ? And what all rounds did you have ?
Just LC all the ways, 4coding+1behavior.
@borj do you have any recommendations on how to prepare for sre. I am very much interested into Linux and kernel. Would like to get more knowledge and give a try for sre position. Any inputs would be appreciated. Thanks
SRE definitely have very good career growth, and the packages are decent for entry level.

Google SWE-SRE and SWE have the exact same interview process and you can switch from one to the other pretty easily. Interviewed for one role and now in team matching for both.
Hey, I too finished my onsite loop for SWE-SRE last week and waiting for the recruiter feedback. I have some questions: 1. Which location and level have you interviewed for? 2. Did you have a SD (system design) round? If you had, what's the weightage provided for SD round compared to the coding round? (as IMO have totally bombed SD, so want to know my chances) 3. Did the recruiter provided a detailed feedback? If it is so, can you please provide the info? 4. Have you cleared HC and then currently in the team match process (or) is it first team match then HC? Thanks in advance.
1. Bay Area 2. No 3. No 4. Cleared HC, now in TM
