I got an offer from Google for a Sr Android position. Was excited about the offer but compensation came back as under 200k TC. 160 cash 140 over 4 year options. Edit: Location San Francisco. Yoe 8 Current TC is 200 base + paper stock
How is that under 200k?
What location and how many yoe?
San Francisco office and 8yoe
Google always lowballs without competing offer. Trend on Blind.
What's it take to "inform" Google of this to actually get a good offer out of them? Just tell them "I'm interviewing with Facebook too"? Or do you wait and get Google's shitty offer, then show them Facebook's better offer, THEN Google finally gives a real offer..?
Some people disagree but from many of the Blind posts and else where I gathered they like to downlevel ppl and give them standard package or sometimes even lower than competitors. Now they are my obsevations. I think you have to have an actual offer from facebook. Can’t just say I am interviewing - well sure do you have an offer?
Dont forget the 15% bonus, so it’s higher than 200k ;)
The 160 includes bonus
Yikes wtf that is a huge low-ball, especially considering how hard Google's interviews are.
Did you negotiate or having competing offers? If not, then Google will pay you about 10-20k less.
I didn't. Was not really job hunting so just did the interview on a whim. I still can negotiate.
Do you know your level? L4? Looks low on GSUs...
I am guessing you must have told them what you are currently making. I made that mistake and they matched it exactly with zero value given to my startup equity.
I didn't even do that but I did tell the recruiter after I got the compensation package that my current base comp was above 200k (I don't get bonuses though)
My SDE II offer at amazon NYC recently was 270K. Although SDE2 is a really wide band, most ppl in bay area usually get 230+. Google giving 200K offer for L4 is weird. Of course, w refreshers, your TC could still go up without promo, but...
Is Google a Tier 2 company now? 🤔
Yes.
