I went through 2 telephonic and 5 onsite rounds for google TPM Infrastructure. With 6 months of preparation and out of 5 onsite rounds (2 did not go well) However the system design rounds went pretty well. The feedback I got was my cognitive ability rounds did not go well but technical interviews went well it seems. I have read in blog that you need to have minimum 2.7 out of 4 and one strong hire..of 4.. I Don't know whether this information is authentic..but looking at feedback given to me it looks like all rounds are valued and judged irrespective if 5 out of 7 rounds go good..can someone throw some light on this.. I got a reject.... When I asked feedback they mentioned all 7 5 rounds onsite should go well. I want to know is Google TPM HIRING is it mandate to have all 5 rounds good.
Cognitive ability were open ended technical questions like..in 10 000 server farm ,you want to replace hard disk how will you go about it without redundancy...there were almost 7 such questions
Luckily I only got one or two tech questions... the 2nd one was more conceptual.
No wonder dmodemd..your cognitive ability was not tested :)
There is nothing right or wrong about those answers but the way you approach matters, that's what they meant :)..
Curious - could you share more about your background? What did you do prior to this? What kinda questions did they ask you? Is the TPM hiring generic like software hiring or is it more team specific?
I felt the interview process was more generic with system design 2 rounds and there was role related round as well..I felt the interview process and questions asked were equally tough as engineering manager role..From design perspective no coding though
No coding or algorithms?
No coding but 2 rounds of system design taken by SWE
Given how confusing this post is, I'm not at all surprised you got rejected
Thanks for sharing your experience and answering all the follow up questions as well. I know it’s not something you originally asked on your post. Hopefully someone more familiar with the hiring process can answer that.
What do they mean by cognitive ability? Like logic questions?
