Passed HC for a Google SWE L4 role. Now I'm working with my recruiter to find HMs to chat with. I have a couple questions: 1. Do Google recruiters only focus on matching candidates with teams under the orgs that they recruit for, or do can they branch out to any org under the Google umbrella? 2. Would it make sense for me to also network on LinkedIn with potential HMs in parallel, while my recruiter searches internally? Hoping this could increase my chances of a match. TC: 260K with 4 yoe
Ask your friedns to connect you to hm. If you lare particularly interested in a specific domain like say query optimizations for tensor flow go to their open source meetup and network or when they give guest lecture at Stanford. Imo recruiters are stupid when it comes to connect you with hiring manager, if you have a specific skill say low latency infra you need to find your own ways to connect with hm
Google recruiter only can match you to team under Google umbrella, other Alphabet company has different hiring team and pay structure. As far as team matching goes, i think the effort of networking in LinkedIn is not going be worthwhile. There are more people that want a job in Google than the HM can reply.
Yeah, fair point about Alphabet vs Google. I guess I meant to say the "Google umbrella", where I could be considered for roles under YouTube, for example.
It's very common(not sure if it's all) that recruiters work for their own org and will prefer to match you within their orgs. But you can ask them if you are interested in some projects. My recruiter worked for cloud but I asked for search jobs so he did. For your second question, I do see some engineers got hired into specific teams directly without doing team match due to their connection. So if you know some connection at Google and their team is hiring, you can ask recruiter to reach out to their team.
Is there an internal jobs board where the hiring manager name is listed?
Yeah they do. I suppose it's possible to ask someone you know at Google to look up HMs for given roles so that you can contact them directly

Worth taking a risk on late stage company?
Congrats! Any tips on preparing for the google (and other) interviews.
Just the usual advice to do LC problems, but with a focus on working through problems on a whiteboard or in front of friends/colleagues where you simulate the interview environment
Thanks! Just started doing that, do you think there is a optimal number of problems you thought were enough?
