Why is google doing team matching before HC given team matching isn't really evaluative? Seems like a waste of time. The old approach was better.
What level? If it is less than L6, your recruiter will recommend team match if your interview performance wasn’t strong enough to go to HC first. The hope is that they find a team that is a great fit and will vouch for you at HC. It is harder to get an offer if that’s the case but it is worth a shot. The “old approach” still happens but only if you consistently did well on all your interviews.
Well, I guess then we know how well OP performed
What was the "old approach" ?
My rec told me that Team Match boosts your chance at HC, since your manager writes a recommendation letter. IMO this is the better way, since some people don't get team matched even after passing HC. Why go through the effort of HC if nobody likes you?
I am in the same boat, waiting for team match before HC. Its been close to 2 months now and still didn’t match. Rec told me that the interview feedback was very strong with positive feedback across the board, but team match has to happen first. The process is draining. At this point of time, I have given up. If it happens, it will be nice. And its fine if it doesn’t happen.

If no team wants you, what's the point of giving you an offer?
why waste time on people who are borderline? you can interview with 5+ teams and then get rejected at hiring committee stage
It makes no sense to me. Doesn't Google value the HM time?
