I have an offer for a Senior SWE role at Google X. The comp offered is lower than I would have expected with a ~200k 4 years RSU grant (about 50k/year). Usual Google T4 offers are at around 320k/4 years and higher with good competing offers. Is the compensation philosophy at Google X that different compared to Google or was I lowballed?
What’s the overall offer?
Since when is L4 320k. https://www.levels.fyi/SE/Google/Facebook/Microsoft
320k RSUs, this is what most of the people I know that joined after their PhDs got as first offer
Google is no longer being competitive without a competing offer. They gave you a median offer based on L4. You can try and negotiate. Good luck.
The weird part is I have competing offers with TCs in the high 400s but Google X said that they can't match them. Even to match my current comp they would need CEO approval. I am wondering if X pays in a different way compared to Google or if they are simply lowballing me
What is your offer title?
I don't have it in writing so I don't have the title. They said it's a SWE T5 position.
Are you sure that’s senior SWE?
That sounds surprisingly low for L5. AFAIK, X total comp is on par with Google. FWIW, once you join, you’ll get refreshers in June~ and they vest over 2 years (with 1 year cliff) rather than 4 years (no cliff). Same $ amount
Did you interview for robotics... front end engineer role?
Competing offers are from which companies?
