I guess this isn’t something new but I’m so frustrated that I just want to vent. I got offered a position as a contractor for 5 months at Google, I was so happy because I was going to be part of an amazing project, I interviewed for it on August and got the offer letter two weeks after. It took 2 months for Google to have me on board but I didn’t care, I was in and that was what mattered. Started officially working on November and a month after, I got a call from my agency, that call that nobody wants to receive. I got notified my contact was ending at the end of the year for business reasons. Reason? You can do whatever you want with a contractor. #google no Google
This is why you don't do contracts unless you're desperate. Go get a FT role instead
Disagree. Contracting gigs can be great for the job experience, the possibility of being converted to FT, and/or flexibility to leave at the end of the contract. I have contractors on my team who have done these exact scenarios and get the upside.
At least you now have a Google blind account.
... this is literally how contracting works.
Tough life mate. Being an FT can help.
Contractor budget may have been scraped by finance to cut costs. Happens unfortunately and often the first place companies save money.
This is not mistreatment. This is how contract positions work. Your disappointment is understandable though. Good luck getting a perm position or another contract.
Are you choosing to work on contracts as opposed to finding full-time roles, OP? Apply indiscriminately to full-time roles at companies you want to work at. Stack the deck in your favor and you'll find something good and permanent. Good luck!
These are some important lessons. - Google is not special - No company cares about you - Brands are bullshit. Only TC/hoursWorked matters.
I’ve made this mistake before, not at Google, just take it as a life lesson. You were taking on all the risks in this relationship if you didn’t realize. I’m sure you can get full time work somewhere with benefits.

I don’t see what google did wrong here
Supposed to be a 5 month contract. Everyone is an at will employee even as full time but if you get fired/laid off soon without a good reason, it's not a good look.
