This has never happened to me before! I have verbal offer for senior swe that is quite good and google recruiter is asking for any written proof of offer to "help the compensation team give best offer". Google is L4 so they know they probably can't match anyways. How do I handle this?
Never forward competing offer email.
It might just be a negotiation tactic from a weak recruiter.
It happened to my friend at Google who had an offer from a ride share company. He had to send the offer to Google to get them to match compensation
Agreed. Google will not match unless you show competing offer from FANGs or Uber/lyft. Just the nature of their process
Send an email to the recruiter of what you were verbally offered in detail, if you are seriously considering Google. No judgement here, but if you can't produce something, perhaps you lied? 🤔😉
I have an email where I confirm the numbers with the recruiter. Dont want to use it though it seems unethical.
It's not unethical but data driven. Google (and Facebook) use market data to inform decisions, especially wrt comp. These companies process thousands of offers at a time so don't take it personally. Works in the candidates (and overall markets) favor by informing real time compensation data. Btw - its mostly going up from what I can see.
Tell them it’s a verbal offer and you have to accept it for them to send email. If the offer is really high (meaning they don’t believe it) they might ask for this. Did you tell them the competing company name? If it’s a direct competitor that might actually help you in this case.
Yes direct competitor and comp is top of band for that level offer is high but only 25 percent higher than current comp.
