Did good during Google interviews, passed HC, recruiter said to have update on the offer in the end if the week. In the meantime I received an offer from FB. Now recruiter pushes me to give up FB offer details. I feel I should persist and don't reveal the numbers, but is there any chance that in this case I will wait for a long time before compensation commeetee reevaluates the offer? Wouldn't it be better for me to force them to start from a higher base?
But why would google believe you?
All these recruiters have the most up to date comp information more so then almost anyone else. If you bullshit they can tell. They may ask you for the offer letter and if you bluff but then back down that's also a bad idea. That's why they generally believe when you counter but they have all the data. They basically already know what's the max they'll give you.
Someone I know went to Apple and just threw some numbers that were well above the actual and they took it as the highest they could work with. AKA no problem playing the field a bit as long as you're reasonable
The only way giving them the offer could hurt you is if their offer is much higher then FBs. Which probably has a 2% chance of happening.
Might be that way, but I feel I did very well on the interviews + matched to the same team where I was interning (i.e. have positive feedback from them)
Then tell them you didn't get the numbers yet you just know you got the offer? Or tell them I don't want to share that straight up. They can't hold against you. If they low-ball just email the offer letter you got back from fb. You are in control of this leverage don't give anything away for free. The person who usually loses negotiations is the one who mentions the first number.
There is nothing wrong or illegal in them asking about FB offer
They need the data to avoid going back to change terms. They are incentified to close you asap and get you the amount you would accept.
I'm so confused. Why are people advising you not to tell goog. Tell goog, let them come back with an offer that beats fb, take that offer to fb and let them beat it, and repeat as long as you/them are comfortable with (maybe once or twice). It's not going to help you holding back the numbers, unless goog was going to give you a significantly higher offer than fb, which is most likely not possible.
OP, for what level did you get offers from FB and G? And your experience?

It would be a bad sign even for google if you reveal. They might think that you have also revealed their offer to facebook
That's what negotiation is about, isn't it?
Not necessarily. Just tell like "it has higher RSU and sign in bonus...". They are not stupid, they know how much cca it might be
