Heard on the Grapevine. Still waiting on confirmative source.

EDIT: So apparently the “docking” was the click bait… but they are working along the same peinciple.. “if you don’t need to be spending too much, then you shouldn’t earn that much”

Still shitty …

Almost every employer pays differently depending on your location. Maybe they shouldn’t, but they do. It’s nothing new - even though your clickbait headline is trying to make it sound like it is.

So many of the incorrect posts. Google isn't docking 15% for remote workers. Our tool tells us what our pay will be if we go remote in a specific city. If it is not in commuting distance from your office, your pay could change. Ie move from in office Chicago to remote in SF Bay Area, my pay will actually go up. If my in office location is Chicago, and I am perm remote in Chicago, no pay cut.

They're applying their in office method of determining TC to a non-office model. It's going to take a while before they realize that paying $300k to an average engineer in a high TC location doesn't make sense when you're losing high quality engineers in low cost locations because you offered them $150k. Remote companies like Coinbase will swoop in and take them, then the HR of these companies will realize what's going on and adjust.

As someone who used to work in London - lol.
Maybe you should've fought for us rather than feeding us that shitty cost of living line.
