Yes I know this question has been beaten to death, then beaten to death again And again Then nuked from orbit and shot into the sun But Google offered L3 after interviewing for L4 P sure it’s an upgrade still, but I’m uneasy being another newb engineer Can someone give me pro/cons of taking this L3 offer? TC: 140 (Remote) YOE: 5 (Don’t take up level offers folks, that’s how you get fired) #google
when u apply as remote, can u team match with multiple offices or still had to pick a location first? and u need offer TC for comparison, or current TC is that was offer TC

Amazon pip and Google downlevel posts take up my 80% of feed here nowadays.
You’re not wrong
What’s the offer ? If it’s more than your current TC.. take it. 5 yoe is nothing in the grad scheme of things. You can use your experience to get to L4 faster. And having google on your resume helps if you want to switch later. If you had 7+ yoe, I’d say l3 is down level.
I see ppl with 5 YOE commonly getting senior SWE offers tho (L5/E5)
I wonder how many % of 5yoe get senior (not counting inflated titles at smaller companies). Probably very small numbers.
Can’t speak for Google L3 but have to agree - know thy level! It may be less money, but better to come in at a lower level and have a stellar performance than come in at a level you’re not qualified for, work like a dog, still not meet expectations and then get PIP’d/fired for “performance”.
Oh damn, Yubico. Nice products dude 👍
Having experienced the latter first hand to a tee, I don’t disagree
G = Slow career growth. If you’re starting with a down level, then you are going to lose many many years in comparison to your peers. Unless this is some amazing teams at google doing cool stuff (Brain, etc) don’t take it. Plenty of other better companies hiring, just interview more. Worst case, G offer is valid for a year.
Reason to downlevel?
Who knows. Maybe I didn’t answer a question fast enough or took too many hints
5 yoe is not early career. Turn down L3
Can you elaborate on “(Don’t take up level offers folks, that’s how you get fired)”? Is this from a personal experience?
Yes. Matrix management is cancer

What was the offer? Lol
It’s a verbal. No numbers yet
Then it's too early to say. Although since you're early in your career I think getting that shiny G experience on your resume would pay off in spades for your future, so unless they won't go above 140 (lol) I would take it regardless.
