I am interviewing for google india at the moment, but I am more interested in the zurich office instead. Whenever i mention this to the recruiter(indirectly ofc), the recruiter attempts to evade it or give other equivalent answers. Should I continue with the process till I get an offer and then try to persuade or should I be firm right away? Also, i know it's not going to be easy or even possible (in case they are not hiring for the zurich office). In such a case, how long would it take if i do join the india office to get a chance to move to the zurich office? Current tc: 53LPA INR india (72k USD) Yoe: 6.5 To answer some things: - yes, i could move to us within amazon but that is not my personal goal. I want to travel across europe if possible in my youth and worry about tc a little later(but not totally ignore it). Also, due to personal constraints as well, i can only go as far as london (distance wise). Moreover, managers completely screwed my promo recently for their own. So, moving within same level to US would take me back while i could jump to a higher level outside
I think the recruiter specifically works on filling APAC roles and doesn't want to forward you to an EMEA recruiter. There are indeed a lot less openings in Zurich than India as per Careers website, by the way.
I thought the same. So, should i drop the rec? I did clear the first round already and have on-sites (virtual) scheduled. Or should I take a jab at google india and then mayb transfer later? What would that take?
From my personal opinion and experience, after onsite rounds, your team matching and HC review will start in parallel. Try to setup team matching with hiring managers through the recruiter for a few days. Hopefully, once HC decision comes out to be positive in a few days/weeks, you can then firmly tell recruiter that you want to be matched with HMs in Zurich. HC decision is valid for a year, so you can tell the recruiter to forward you to an EMEA recruiter or connect with an EMEA recruiter by yourself. If you don't get matched with a Zurich team in a couple of months, try for Indian teams.
Don't you need good experience to go to Zurich, are you sde2?
Yes. Been sde2 at amazon for way too long. Hence, interviewing at many faang roles. But mainly interested in movement to europe, google being the priority
sde2 not gettingt L1 to us?
Zurich is full.
Yes. Hence, the second part of the question. If i do join google india, what does it take to move to zurich later?
Hard to join either way, Zurich is literally full. 100 candidates on 1 position. The same is true for all except Warsaw. If you want Europe you have more chance with Amazon as someone below said.
Who is your recruiter please? Am looking for HR position at Google London
I don't think my recruiter would be able to help out with google London. But if you are interested in fb London and have 5+ yoe, hit me up via dm
have you been to Zurich? After 7pm you have no life, stay put up in India or go to some happening country, everything that glitters is not gold.
Yeah. Its been almost 10 years since i last went. But it's been my childhood dream to live there ever since. Plus, being in center of europe, would give flexibility to enjoy the next couple of years traveling over the weekends. And no to forget, tc. But tbh, i am open for london as well. my worst case option would be to take Amazon london internal transfer, but that would suck for my tc. I am set for next two years in stocks, but nada after that
Stop pretending like it's not purely for the money and low tax. I can smell your real intentions. You reek of it.
Zurich, as well as most EU countries, is anti non-EU. Even Google cannot just send someone to Zurich regardless of whatever deal they have since I know cases where students studying in Zurich being sent out to other EU offices. If you want to go to EU, try Warsaw (low salary + cloud is rising => more headcount) or London (most international).
I have heard this as well. But is not google Zurich office the biggest one outside hq? Would that hold true in office? Also, i did get interviewed by east asians working in zurich office. Or are you referring to overall life? Especially outside office?
Office size is independent of office openings.
Ugh.. more amazon folks ๐
I do understand your reluctance, but not all folks are the same. Just saying
Just memeing :)
Many Amazin teams are hiring directly from India in Luxembourg, Berlin and Amsterdam. If the goal is to tour Europe , try that route instead if interviewing outside. External companies would require at least 1-2 years within the company before they allow international relocation
I have referred a bunch of people living in India to Google offices in Europe. Each time, an Indian recruiter takes the application and re-routes it to a local opening. Then they interview, get the India offer, then they decline it (or Google refuses to match an offer from Uber, Tower etc) and then they get a Europe offer 1-2 months later, after team matching. Just follow this process and you will be fine. I can't guarantee Zurich, but you will get London or Paris or Munich or Warsaw. Recruiters get paid when you join Google. They want you to join so that they get paid. Google allocates new hiring budget in January, so your timing is perfect.
Hey, will they resume new grad hiring for locations other than India in Jan?
Probably. You will have to go through the whole process I outlined above
