I had my onsite at Google last Friday. I had 5 rounds in total with 1 system design and 4 coding rounds. I did well in most except in one coding round where I was asked 2 questions and I couldn't even answer the second question. That was a leetcode hard btw. The interviewer for that question was also not very collaborative. He kept quiet throughout the interview and just expected me to solve the question. Would this impact my results? Also, should I give feedback to the recruiter about this interviewer? Would it help me at all in anyway? Current TC - 180
I wouldn't give feedback, it won't affect the decision. From what I heard, one negative round is fine assuming you did well in others. What topic was the hard question that you couldn't answer? Dynamic programming?
Wooo even onsite interview has Coding questions ? Is it similar to telephonic coding tests?
Yes similar to telephonic coding tests.
one negetive round and you are out... happened to me... did really well in 4 rounds and one round was a no.... i didnt get it
What were the questions?
Sorry I am under NDA and I have seen others follow this strictly as well.
My HR had said that 3/5 rounds' feedback should be above neutral to get selected.
Is that all needed for L5 ?
3/5 can at least get you to HC where they'll look at the difficulty of the questions you failed vs passed. It's all on you in those interviews though to ask the right questions. No point in hiring an engineer who wastes time by working on a task they don't actually understand.
What level were you interviewing for?
Not sure. I didn't realise that google sets the level before the interview. But I have 13 years of experience so I am guessing L5?
UPDATE (logged in from a new phone): I got a reject. Apparently the system design round didn't go very well. I am really surprised since the interviewer hinted several times I am going in the right direction.
I had same experienced with one of the interviewer who was just so rude and didn't even explain the question (leetcode hard) clearly. I think it did impacted the outcome. But I did mentioned about all these in their feedback form. Although I don't think they look at the responses. Good luck ๐
Thank you for the information.
