This is from a recent leetcode forum post. If you stop matching offers, you will lose a lot of talent to other firms willing to pay more. The same thing happened with IBM and Yahoo! where all their Researchers and engineers were poached by FAANG and look what happened to them. But I am suspecting this is just a recruiter's negotiation tactic
Negotiation tactic
With their size, they only need to focus on a few critical hires. Most of us won’t move the needle for the company and countering every offer has diminishing return.
Google didn't match my offer two years ago either, but I'll say I know I didn't exactly kill the interview.
I mean, do they have to match offers? If they see you as a key person for success of a large project, they have enough resources. If they see you as a replaceable resource, why would they match others? They already have tens of thousands of snowflakes
All is based on statistics. Google currently has stats that even if they low-ball by 20% candidates join them over other fang over 90% of the time. And that is sufficient for the talent appetite. When things start dropping they will up their numbers. It's all basic business, G can afford to low-ball because people are ready to join them for the other things it offers. See for yourself, what G is doing is making a difference to you who is employed at BB. You perhaps doesnt even have an offer from them right now but you know that you plan to interview there and that is your perfect outcome of leetcode grinding. G knows this. This is the harsh reality mates. I hope that you all folks start rejecting G offer so that G ups their pay, but no one would. People keep on accepting lowballs and lower levels.
This is the answer
What Google said holds true for a lot of companies with sufficient brand value and supply demand.
It also depends on who's offer it is. An offer from your granny is treated differently than an offer from Amazon.
Or maybe they are treated the same way. Amazon offer carries 0 respect at L<6
Do you want a manager who PIP their entire team tho
They will pay top dollar for a good match in a critical team. The rest are whatever.
Ibm was dead and had no talent long before fang became a thing
Of course Google is trying to be like us 🙄
