Google laid me off | Severance Details

I am one of the 12k laid off today. Nearly half my team was cut (team is under Assistant org). I've only been at G for less than a year but I heard of a founder of another org with a 10 year tenure being let go as well. My attitude: sweet severance thanks! ––––– Here's the severance package I received: Compensation: You’ll be paid during the full notification period (minimum 60 days). You’ll also receive a severance package starting at 16 weeks salary plus two weeks for every additional year at Google. Stock: We will accelerate GSU vesting, starting at 16 weeks plus two additional weeks for every full year at Google. Bonus: You’ll receive your 2022 bonus. You should have already received 80% of your on-target bonus, and you can expect the remainder in March. PTO: You’ll be paid for any unused vacation. Healthcare: Your existing health insurance will continue through the last day of the month of your end date. You’ll also receive a 6-month cash healthcare subsidy for medical, dental, and vision expenses after that*. As well as job placement, immigrant support (US citizen so I'm ok), and mental health support. TC: 320K YOE: 12 UX #severance #layoff

Microsoft daddysatya Jan 20, 2023

You should chill now for a month or so with that severance and get refreshed to get back on job market

Stripe nIiV46 Jan 20, 2023

Right when everyone else is interviewing.

Meta Nhtg85 Jan 20, 2023

So you still have to work for 60 days?

Google chooglin OP Jan 20, 2023

This is so much better than Amazon

Apple CfEc78 Jan 20, 2023

Jealous of this sweet package

Meta _wtf1 Jan 20, 2023

So it’s 24 weeks of pay plus additional based on tenure. That’s the best severance I have seen.

Google !blind! Jan 20, 2023

More accurately: 10 weeks employment till March 31 + 16 w core severance + N*2 tenure severance + 7.5 weeks max PTO accrued For 9 years with max PTO, it’s 52 weeks (not laid off, none in my team)

Apple CfEc78 Jan 20, 2023

Does the +16 weeks start on April 1? Because damn that is basically now until August of free pay.

Teradyne s1N Jan 20, 2023

What does this means: We will accelerate GSU vesting, starting at 16 weeks plus two additional weeks for every full year at Google??

Google godof* Jan 20, 2023

Googlers get stock refreshers every year. The vesting schedule allows for some stocks to be vested every month. This clause means they will let all the future 4 months stocks vesting to happen today instead of in next 4 months. Plus, they will allow 2 weeks for every year at Google.

Teradyne s1N Jan 20, 2023

Got it. What about the RSU an individual receive at the time of joining?

Bloomberg redhorse5 Jan 20, 2023

Am I right in saying you can reapply to work at Google in the future?

Google chooglin OP Jan 20, 2023

Manager said yes

Bloomberg redhorse5 Jan 21, 2023

That's great news. You passed the bar once, and there is no reason you can't again in the future. Try to find out which teams are revenue generating so that you know where to apply next time.
