Itβs going to be a year since Google changed all the logos to the same color scheme. What are you thoughts now?
They're aesthetically nicer and help the larger brand be cohesive. Smart move for helping launch new products. In terms of functionality, my first reaction was "I can't tell them apart, wtf Google!" But after just a little while of using them, the similarities aren't actually obtrusive; I still know which tab is for what. I wager that this is what the UX team found too, and that they decided the minor UX hit adopting to these would be worth it in the long run. Side by side with no actual usage context, I still hate them though π
Tbh, someone asked this in an all hands internally. Even we don't like it.
Google loves building sandcastles, with minute steps forward to the next, sometimes even going backwards. This branding probably cost +$15 MM to implement with all the research, case studies, UX/UI, etc. How long before this washes away and they build another? Same goes for the backend code for a lot of products.
Look, you can hate it all you want, but people will always have some explanation as to why its important. The convincing skills is the reason this profession exists.
Honestly donβt know which one is the new logo and which is the old without checking
No one cares about logos. They're just a scheme to keep useless people hired (logo designers). My niece can do that job.
Somebody teach this guy the power of brand and value of design. Will never go above L5 with that mindset.
Its important, but not that important. Not worthy of a team of full time employed people.
