Hi Googlers on blind, i heard due to the virus situation, G and fb have altered their performance evaluation standard. the rumors are peole are welcoming the changes at fb but peole say it is really bad for googlers. Can someone in Google shine light on what are the changes and how it is gonna affect googlers. what do u think the impact will be at G due to the virus? low compensation? low bonus? less refresh? layoff? background info: Munuchin said the umemployment rate may go to 20%, which is insane to me. if that becomes a reality, i guess the biggest hit industry will be airlines, hotels and small business. High tech industry will for sure get a hit too, but do you believe G will have massive layoffs? hope this virus goes away soon and everyone can go back to normal life.
Interested in this as well
correct the typo guys
FB gave everyone a good rating and $1000 Google cancelled perf results and promos just before they were almost finalized, and is switching to yearly perf cycles. Promos are going to be slower than ever before, as if they weren't slow enough already
Pretty sure the yearly thing is just for this year. It’ll resume back to normal.
Officially yes. But I wouldn't be so sure. IIRC it was one of the proposals in the infamous internal cost cutting deck that sparked some internal outrage last year
but google is not in the most affected businesses such as airlines n hospitality. on the contrary, this type of job in science should get boosted like zoom.
Some of those hospitality industries had hugr ad budgets that have evaporated, though. Would be interested to know how this affects Google's revenues
I can foresee layoff in every industry. Recession creates a chain reaction
Probably Amazon will benefit a lot from the crisis. Currently a lot of people switch to online shopping.
I'm not sure how much Amazon would benefit since there is a delay in fulfillment. So stuffs you order today, your expected date of delivery is 1 month from now.
30% unemployment is my and Goldman Sachs baseline assumption. If no one is buying stuff, ads sell for $0.
That shouldn’t affect Google right? When the ads are viewed, google collects its money for ad. If no one is buying anything, stores will take a big hit but not google imo
Google’s ad value depends on clicks, not just views. Part of the downside of having a great data feedback loop is people will see quickly that the ads aren’t translating into sales.
While I understand that the senior management has much more important worries right now, there were many better ways to handle the perf cancellation. People are rightfully upset. I, for one, feel screwed over. I'm still secretly hoping they will do something to make it more right in the future, when the situation calms down a bit.
Only if enough people leave to FB.
It affects EVERYONE including FAANG. sooner or later there will be layoffs if this thing continues
Google has the best RSU
Not really
How does it compare to refreshers at Facebook?
