I recently did an on-site at Google and here's my experience. Interview 1: Easy question, I talked about the solution and then we collaborated for another solution. Discussed the time complexity of both and coded both. Had follow up on it, interviewee gave some hints and just discussed it. She did mentioned that you have a working solution and this is for bonus points. She was really helpful. Interview 2: Another easy question, asked him few questions to clarify the problem. Interview asked me to code it. I did that, talked about the time complexity. Did a minor mistake and asked him a silly question. He had a follow up question, didn't ask to code it though. Interview 3: Behavioral round, I basically suck at this. I did answer few questions well. He asked me one question twice, I mentioned that I already answered that but then he said let's get into details now. Seemed like he didn't notice that he had asked that question. After the interview he said he was a substitution for a last minute cancellation and he wasn't prepared. Don't know what to make out of it. Interview 4: Was an interesting problem, interviewee mentioned that this is more of a collaboration and he doesn't care about coding. So we talked about the ways we can solve it. Every idea that I gave him, he would find some problem/issue with it and he was really quick to find those problems. Finally came up with something but even that had higher time complexity. He asked me to code it in like last 10 minutes, did that. He said that he has asked this question 50 times and he has got 48 different ways of solving it and there is no right answer. Interview 5: No white board for this. Easy question, but he asked me to give all possible solutions for it and discuss the time complexity. He would go in details of all those solutions and it was just talking. Then he asked me to talk about unit tests for the problem. He had follow up question on how to scale it, discussed about threading/locking and map reduce. Finished it well before the time, so he decided to ask another question. Was straight forward and we came up with the solution. Recruiter said he got mixed signals, and would proceed to HC. He wouldn't tell me how many of those were negatives and how many positives and no feedback either. I have no clue how well I did or how I fucked up. What are my chances? YOE - 3.5
Is this for l5 or l4?
I don't know, seems like I didn't had any system design - so l3?
L4 possible too
Op, do you mind if I Dm you?
Sure
so finally accepted by HC? level?
Not sure about your chances but expect the results to be given slowly. My recruiter said my feedback was positive and she’d be moving forward with team match before HC. That was right before thanksgiving and I’ve yet to hear back since then. I was hoping to get an Amazon offer to help speed up the process but they rejected me so there goes that plan.
Same here. I got an reject from Amazon as well. But I did pretty bad over there and was expecting a reject.
My interviewers hid how badly I did pretty well, I felt it could go either way. Feedback given by the recruiter was not enough experience. They let me know like one day after the interview though, so I like their promptness.
I like their promptness as well. He emailed me right after the interview to let me know that he is working on collecting the feedback and then called me to inform that he will proceed with HC. It seemed like he wanted to see if I have any other offers.
Care to share the question 4?
When did you have your onsite? I gave mine a week ago and no update from the recruiter yet.
After a week, definately reach out. I regret I waited until 2 weeks. Turns out there was one interviewer who didn't submit feedback and the recruiter wasn't even watching. It still took another 2 weeks to get that interviewer to complete the feedback. This despite the copious note-taking during the interview...
Hi Capco, did you get in eventually? My interviewer is being slow, too. Not sure if it's bad signal or not. Thanks.
Which location did you do your interview? For me.. I got all positive signals except one coding round was not that good, ie didnt get optimal solution. Got to HC but rejected
DM’ed you..
Op, How do you define "easy" here ?
