Expecting an offer from both. Pay will be comparable and will be in Seattle/Redmond. Was wondering from perks, culture, wlb what are plus and minuses Things that I have heard: Google: better refreshers, free food, maybe younger workforce, better commute to Seattle Msft: good wlb, been offering good amount of pto in 2021
Having worked for both… Google is good for resume padding. MSFT is better for rest and vesting (in my opinion). Googles food has been getting worse. I suspect it will not have improved after the pandemic. I like Satya over Sundar as CEO. And MSFT has much better perks around volunteer / donation matching if that’s important to you. My favorite was donating 25$ to the charity for every hour you volunteered there. I would volunteer at my local animal shelter and they’d get 200$ from MSFT for each 8 hour shift. Lastly, goog is very Mountain View centric. Better to be at the mothership for career growth.
Thanks For the insight. If I could get google to come up in salary, would it be a different narrative to maybe consider google?
What’s your YOE? How important is resume stats? MSFT recruiters are frothy to hire Xooglers so you could chill at Goog for 2 years then switch if you wanted. Google _is_ harder to get into. Depends on what you want for yourself. If you know any colleagues at either company you should leverage them to find good teams / managers. That will make all of the difference.
Why do you say pay will be comparable? I thought Googoo pays much much more than msft?
Not really. Google leans to down level people
Its not even a comparison. Google is clear winner
I keep hearing about this WLB but haven't seen any evidence of it in Azure. Goog FTW.
M365 is where it's at bud. I don't know a single person working more than 15 hrs a week
So M365 is the reason why outsiders like to call MSFT as "Retirement Homes"
Dfuq. Is this even a question!!
What level are you being offered in each? Google cloud or regular google?
Learn more about each team, have another meeting with each EM, pick the team with the work you are more passionate about. Since both are very large tech companies, quality of teams can vary a lot. If they are about the same I would pick Google.
As a developer, productivity is much better at G than at MSFT. Internal tools just work properly at G. At MSFT, you literally have to fight with legacy tools to get something working for you.
Just curious, what are some perks at google that you/ppl appreciate?
Wlb will highly depend on the manager and team. Culture also highly influenced by team bounding. For perks I believe Google is better. Overall on an average Google is better place. But do consider your manager and team culture.
