Can I get paternal leave in Google if the baby is born a couple of months before I joined Google. Does the policy require you to be employed with Google before child birth or can the parental leave be taken (within the first year of baby's life) even if you were not employed on the day of birth. I don't intend to take the full three months and am not really planning on taking it but want to know if the option exists.
You have to be employed at the time of birth
Hmm.. am getting conflicting info from other Googlers. Could you or someone share screenshot of the policy document. Finding it hard to make a decision about joining date without clarity on this policy and don't want to ask the recruiter or hiring manager.
You mean my ‘info’ about 20 years old babies? You seriously believed that? 🤣
Nope, only employees qualify for benefits.
Dude seriously??? 😂😂😂
Yes seriously. :) Not my fault that Google took so long in the interview process ( 8 months) that the bun in the oven is out. :D And again, my intention is not too game the system. I am not having the kid for taking the leave. Just want to know the applicable policy to make an informed decision. Might be better for me to delay joining and take time off at current employer based on the policy.
Ah! I get your frustration
For FMLA you have to be employed for 12 months prior to joining.
FMLA is different. I don't care about unpaid FMLA or fmla's job protection guarantees.
Well then it’s an open season. You can take parental leave anytime you want.
If you want three months leave and the baby is 2 months at start date, why not just ask to hold off a few more weeks? Regardless of what’s in policy, doesn’t seem like a good first impression to make such a big ask before contributing for even a day. Reminds me of employees I’ve had that work for a month then want to take a 2 week vacation. Would much prefer they start work when they’re ready to work.
Congrats on the new baby btw!

How can I find success dating in NYC
It doesn’t matter when the baby was born. If the baby is under 20 years old then you can take parental leave
Under 20 yrs old. Nice! Guess thats a policy document I will read first during noogler orientation. Thanks!
Of course man. This is Google! We have great perks. Welcome to Google.
