Hello folks, First I'm not with Intel anymore - just didn't update my e-mail. Currently I am working and living in Seattle. My rental is in downtown at walking distance to my office. I don't want any commute... unless I need a larger house someday. Time is more valuable than rent for me and I don't enjoy shuttles or traffic as both are antagonist of life energy. Thus as it's still possible in Seattle, I want to walk to my office. I am getting an offer from Google, but not sure which team yet. As far as I know you need to relocate more than 50 miles to be eligible for relocation benefits. I was wondering if I decide to join a team in Kirkland office, can I get relocation help to (1) find a new apartment (2) break my lease (3) move my stuff I'm not looking for lump sum of money. I just want Google to pay 2 months of rent for breaking my lease contract and moving costs. I found this post to be related to this topic but my location is even shorter (~10 miles): https://www.teamblind.com/article/Google-relocation-requirements-6HUkZ3Kj
You may not qualify for relocation assistance, but you can probably negotiate a bigger signing bonus that you can put towards relocating.
Thanks for advise! Though I think negotiation is complete now and told recruiter I'll accept if we find a good ML team.
No. You won't get anything for that. It's not relocation within Seattle area.
Thanks for the answer! Do you know if Google Fremont or Google Kirkland is bigger - especially in ML teams? And do you know who will move to new campus in South Lake Union?
Whole cloud in Fremont will move to SLU. There are thousands of people in Fremont and Kirkland. Many have some ML related work.
In a comment you stated that you've already closed negotiation. That's it. Your window for arguing for a larger signing bonus, relo bonus, or anything else is closed. In another, you ask about other offices (in California). Note that IF the recruiter decides to push you through to another office, you'd have to pass HC at that office, and then do team matching at that office.

It’s fine if you want to be weird and have your own rules, preferences, and values. Just don’t feel entitled to it being something that others will pay or make an effort to uphold for you. #MillennialEntitlement
