What’s seti?
Didn't know seti was this bad. The recruiter tried to spin it like a good role
It's not a testing role, probably the worst thing about the role are the assholes insisting we work writing tests. SETIs work on infrastructure to leverage quality automation and engineering productivity in general, a lot of it include creating infrastructure for automated tests, but the tests themselves are mostly written by SWEs or TEs. Yes, SWEs spend way more time writing tests than we do. We just happen to not work directly on product features, which is great if you ask me. As for your question, I know a few people who have transitioned to SWE by simply finding a team that gave them a product project, no interviews needed. I've never cared doing that because working on product involves a lot more meetings and working with multiple PMs, not to mention the shitty oncalls. As a SETI I have challenging technical problems to work on without having to worry about any of those, with the same salary and everything. But, as I said, from time to time you'll see people convinced this is a test role. Just ignore it.
