Just passed HC as a SWE, and currently team matching. I’m always interested in building infrastructure software, wondering which team(s) are usually in charge of building applications like bigTable/Spanner/Chubby, etc.
There is “Software Engineer, Infrastructure”. ( NOT Seti). Check it.
Tell your recruiter exactly that.
Here's the thing with team matching, you'll be matched with teams that your recruiter has the best relationship with. You'll really need to push to find roles and outside job postings for exactly what you want and tell your recruiter. So many candidates get pushed around and into roles they aren't perfectly suited for because the recruiter wants to close your packet and move on.
I work on one of those teams and can confirm very little college hiring. Best bet is probably to find a backend team, do well there, and transfer in a year or two. Still, doesn't hurt to ask the recruiter.
Do people fail at the team matching stage often?
No. It is rare but can happen. That is why in many cases team matching is before HC.
That response makes no sense. If failing to match to a team is rare, then why expend the effort at all if the HC is going to reject at least 2/3 of the applicants?
Tools and Infra?
Don’t think so, technically they are product
